Transplant Assistance

The indication for kidney transplantation is end-stage renal disease (ESRD),

regardless of the primary cause. This is defined as a glomerular filtration rate <15ml/min/1.73 sq.m.

Common diseases leading to ESRD include malignant hypertension, infections, diabetes mellitus,

and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis; genetic causes include polycystic kidney disease, a number of inborn errors of metabolism, and autoimmune conditions such as lupus. Diabetes is the most common known cause of kidney disease, accounting for approximately 25% of those in the US.

Welcome to Transplant Assistance

If you are on dialysis and are interested in receiving a transplant, the staff of Universal Kidney Centers can assist you in navigating through the maze of various transplant centers, series of tests, transplant waiting lists, medications, and of course, insurance issues.

Universal Kidney Centers’ staff members are your key to this opportunity. First, we can arrange for your initial consultation. Here they will explore your medical history, social support systems and other related issues. During this meeting, it is important for you to feel comfortable with the transplant team members.

How quickly you get on the transplant list is partially up to you. You should be as flexible with your schedule as possible.

If you need assistance to be set up for transplant evaluation, call (954) 958-9300.
